Gem lake

There are many entry points into the John Muir Trail. Silver lake / Rush Creek trail head is one such to enter the JMT from the June Lake area. Along the way is the spectacular Gem lakes. It is a destination of its own.

July in the Sierra Nevada high country, and the granite slopes around Gem Lakes are still patched with snow. The water level looks low for this time of year, and the shoreline is exposed.
