South side drive in winter, Portrait mode

During freezing conditions, southside drive is covered by snow on either side. Yosemite National Park is beautiful in all seasons, but it really comes alive in winter. During good snow years, there is snow everywhere in the meadows. It makes it dangerous to drive around, but if you can deal with icy roads, a world of wonder awaits. The main roads are cleared often, but as this photo shows, Southside drive can get icy.

I've seen this road in Yosemite a hundred times, but never quite like this — with the first snow of the season clinging to the trees, and the asphalt still wet from the storm.
