Sixty lake basin

Sixty lake basin is a short hike away from Rae Lakes and is seldom explored by hikers along the John Muir Trail. A 2 mile, 600 feet elevation gain brings us to the 60 lake basin with multiple lakes to choose from where to camp. In this photo taken from the top of the ridge, lakes 2 through 5 are seen.

Hiking up to Glenn Pass in late July, I paused to take in the view of the surrounding mountains and the lake nestled below, with scattered trees dotting the landscape under a partly cloudy sky.
