Big Sur Hwy 1 Coastal Highway Cut Into Cliffs

The road ribbons along the cliff edge, a narrow strip of pavement between the ocean and the steep grassy slope above it.

The coastline curves away into haze, with the water shifting from deep blue offshore to a pale turquoise near the rocks. Sun is hitting the hillside unevenly, lighting up patches of green grass and brown chaparral while the cliffs below stay in shadow. The road cuts a tight switchback along the rock face, hugging the contour of the cliff all the way down to the small headland.
