Thousand Island Lake Sunset

Sun sets around thousand island lake, along the John Muir Trail. Thousand Island Lakes is one of the most popular, iconic spots along the John Muir Trail. It is surrounded by mountains in three sides. Banner Peak and Mt.Ritter tower over the lake as well. I have camped in this lake twice so far, in two different hikes. Sunsets are gorgeous along this lake, since it is almost at 10,000 feet elevation and the alpenglow is intense.

July in the Sierra high country, and the mosquitoes were already out in force. I was swatting them away as I set up for this shot of the lake at sunset, hoping to catch the light on the peaks.
