Evolution Valley Granite and Pines

Granite slabs and scattered pines fill the foreground below the steep, rocky peaks of Evolution Valley in the Sierra Nevada.

July in Evolution Valley, and the granite slabs were dry after a week of clear skies. The pines are thriving in the cracks and depressions, and the peaks rise steeply to the west.
