Andromeda galaxy and milky way over Lake Edison

Vermillion Valley Resort is familiar to JMT and PCT hikers. I resupplied at MTR when I did this section of the JMT, so I didn't know how good VVR is. I have read legendary reviews about customer service there. I have also wanted to visit them after Creek Fire and last year's drought. VVR shuts down electricity for all residents at 10pm. That meant clear skies for night sky watchers. Pictured are the Andromeda Galaxy and the milky way and campfire from campers across Lake Edison.

September in the High Sierra, and the Milky Way was directly overhead. I set up my camera to capture the stars over the lake, with the lights of a distant campfire reflecting in the water.
