Rae lakes

Rae Lakes is a series of lakes in the Sierra Nevada, located in Kings Canyon National Park, eastern Fresno County, California. The lakes are located on the John Muir Trail at the base of Black Mountain. This photograph is taken from the sixty lake basin trail which looks down upon Rae lakes and its surrounding peaks.

July in the High Sierra, and the alpine lakes were full from the winter snowpack. The granite peaks were clear of snow except for a few lingering patches in the shadows, and cumulus clouds were building up for the afternoon.
