Turtle Beach, Hawaii

A green sea turtle up on the black sand at Punalu''u, the surf running in behind it and palms along the back of the beach.

I visited Punalu'u Black Sand Beach on the Big Island in April and found a green sea turtle resting near the surf. The black sand is made of basalt and is formed by lava flowing into the ocean which explodes as it cools. Palm trees line the beach.
