Hawaii Black Sand Sea Turtle

A green sea turtle rests on the black sand of Punalu'u Beach in Hawaii.

I visited Punalu'u Black Sand Beach on the Big Island in April and found a green sea turtle resting near the surf. The black sand is made of basalt and is formed by lava flowing into the ocean which explodes as it cools. Palm trees line the beach.
