Bishop Pass Lakes
From near the top of Bishop Pass, Bishop Lake and Saddlerock lakes are seen in this photograph. South Lake is one of the popular entry points to the JMT. Hikers go up Bishop Pass over 12,000 feet to Ducy Basin and then join the JMT in LeConte Canyon. This photograph is looking East from Bishop pass, at the various lakes in the area.
July in the High Sierra, and the sky was a perfect, cloudless blue as I hiked up to Bishop Pass. From the pass, the view opened up to reveal a series of alpine lakes nestled among the granite peaks and sparse vegetation. The air was thin and the sun was intense, but the view was worth the effort.
