Sierra Lakes from Bishop Pass

Several dark blue lakes nestle in the rocky terrain below Bishop Pass in the Sierra Nevada.

July in the High Sierra, and the sky was a perfect, cloudless blue as I hiked up to Bishop Pass. From the pass, the view opened up to reveal a series of alpine lakes nestled among the granite peaks and sparse vegetation. The air was thin and the sun was intense, but the view was worth the effort.
