Byzantine Mosaics

Inside St. Mark''s, golden Byzantine mosaic over every dome, arch and wall, lit from the high windows.

Inside St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, the scale is overwhelming, the walls and ceilings covered in mosaics depicting biblical scenes. The marble columns and arches frame the space, and the light filters in through small windows, illuminating the gold leaf.
