Lake Hamilton Sunset
Lake Hamilton, along the High Sierra Trail, is a popular camping spot. This was taken during sunset. The High Sierra Trail runs East to West across the Sequoia National Park for about 80 miles. It connects Mt. Whitney and Crescent Meadow. About 15 miles from Crescent meadow is Lake Hamilton. As you look up the mountain, Kaweah gap is just behind the peaks. You have to cross Kaweah gap to go past the great western divide. The year we hiked the High Sierra Trail, the trail was lost on the rock face, at about 11'o clock. It made for a dicey off-the-trail detour to get back on. This was a nervous night when we realized the uphill task in front of us then next morning.
I spent a week backpacking in the remote southern Sierra, and Lake Hamilton was the highlight. The lake was still and clear enough to perfectly mirror the granite peaks around Kaweah Gap, catching the first light of dawn.
